4 National Mental Health Crisis Hotlines You Need to Know

- National 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline –988 - Formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, this lifeline provides free and confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This has been a trusted national resource since 2005. In July 2022, the FCC designated the new 3-digit number with the intention of it becoming as commonplace as calling 9-1-1 for physical emergencies. This designation is meant to destigmatize mental health emergencies and provide free emergency support to anyone in crisis. - Call or Text 9-8-8 - Veterans and Service Members call 9-8-8 and press 1 for additional support. You do not need to qualify through the VA to receive help. This is a completely free resource. - This resource provides specialized support to anyone who needs additional support including but not limited to individuals with neurodivergence, persons of color, maternal mental health, youth, disaster survivors, LGBTQIA+, Attempt Survivors, Spanish Speaking Individuals, and those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have hearing loss. - National Sexual Assault Hotline - The Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN) has helped over 3.7 million survivors and their loved ones. RAINN provides sensitive support to all who seek it, and has a 27 year proven track record of helping survivors from all walks of life. RAINN also provides LGBTQIA+ specific support and resources. - Call 800-656-4673 
- National Domestic Violence Hotline - Since 1996, “The Hotline” has fielded over 5.5 million calls, chats, and texts from survivors and their loved ones. They offer 24/7 support 365 days a year providing confidential support, connection to resources, and personalized safety planning. - Text “Start” to 88788 or Call 800-799-7233 - Native American and Alaska Native Survivors can call or text 1-844-7NATIVE (1-844-762-8483) for additional support. 
- Trevor Project Crisis Hotline - A special hotline for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 13-24 in crisis. All counselors are trained to understand the challenges of LGBTQIA+ youth. Connect with a crisis counselor 24/7 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States. - Text “Start” to 678-678 or Call 866-488-7386
